WHAT'S SHAKIN' 2004

What's Shakin': 2008 | 2007 | 2006 | 2005 | 2004

December 7, 2004

In the past few months, there have been a lot of changes at the ol' Half Star Hotel. We have a lot of ground to cover, so let's just get started:

STAFF NEWS:
If you've been to some of our more recent shows, you have undoubtedly noticed some new faces. A few months back, Half Star Hotel and fellow guitarist Andrew Maguire parted company. Through our many years of playing together, Andrew has always been (and continues to be) like a brother to us all. Andrew, you will be missed. We wish you all the best.

You may have asked yourself "so who's that new guy on guitar?" Ladies and gentlemen, we'd like to introduce you to Mr. Michael Skalko. Mike brings a soulful sound to the Hotel that hearkens back to the early days of R&B, reggae, and (most importantly) rock and roll. You've got to come down and check this guy out. Mike - welcome to the show.

Recently, you may have also been fortunate enough to catch Larry Marini (yes, Kevin's older brother) filling in on guitar duties. When the guitar department is understaffed (that is, Brian or Mike is sick, hung over, etc.) Larry has been kind enough to step right in and keep the show on the road. Thanks for all of your hard work, Larry.

Finally, keep your ears peeled for some original Half Star Hotel tunes. They're coming up fast to kick yo'ass.

Well, that's all for now. Keep checking in from time to time. We love having you around.

What's up y'all??!!!

Half Star Hotel will be playing at JR's Bourbon Street Rock House (in the Mardi Gras Complex) in Warwick, RI this Saturday night. We will hit the stage at around 9:00 pm, followed by Witz End and Chase. If this isn't enough to convince you to come to the show (shame on you) then maybe this will help: The Hawaiian Tropic International Model Search is held at the Mardi Gras complex every Saturday night between June 5 and July 24! Visit www.mardigrasnightclub.com for more information.

See you there!

Here's what's shakin'...

Finally we have some new live Hotel Illness pictures for your viewing pleasure. One show is from Cat's on May 15 and the second is from J.R.'s Bourbon Street Rockhouse on March 21. Unfortunately we didn't get any shots of Larry "Blackberry" Marini, but for those of you there you got to see him work his craft. Thanks again Larry. Special guest Michael Skalko will be guitar slingin' with us this Friday the 28 at J.R.'s Bourbon Street Rockhouse. Hope to see you there!

Peace,
David

Many thanks to everyone who came out to see the Hotel Illness show on Saturday night. We had a blast. Special thanks go out to my brother Larry "Blackberry" Marini for his guitar work. We're always working on new material (yes, Descending is in the works), so don't be a stranger. I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday night, can you? Wait...don't answer that.

See you soon,
Kevin

What's up everybody? The Station Benefit gig at JR's was a smashing success. The grand total raised for the Station Family Fund was $12,000. Thanks to everyone who showed up and contributed to a great cause. Plus we had a great time doing it. It was great to meet some new Crowes fans as well. We hope to have some pictures of that show up pretty soon.

We'll be back at JR's this Thursday, April 8th as Hotel Illness (Black Crowes) We're opening for Pencil Grass. Hope to see you there.

Peace,
Bob

Here's what shakin'... We had so much fun at Sh-Na-Na's on the 6th. Seeing old friends and meeting new ones, always a joy. Guest appearances on stage included Jay Rigney and Michael Skalko, just to name a few. Here are some pictures if you're interested. Right now we're working on the songs for the Hotel Illness set at J.R.'s on the 21st. Should be a wild time. See you there!

Here's what's shakin'. We're gearing up for Sunday's show at the Narraganset Indian Lounge. The benefit is for Leigh Ann Moreau who lost her life in the Station nightclub fire. The event will get underway at 12 noon with the Bobby Fleet Band, and Half Star Hotel will be playing at 3:00. Come on down and help a good cause, and maybe have a little fun while you're at it.

This just in... Hotel Illness is officially in the Station nightclub benefit show line-up at J.R.'s Bourbon Street Rockhouse on March, 21. There will be other "tribute" bands on the roster as well. We'll keep you posted as more details come in.

See you Sunday,
David

Happy Valentine's Day Y'all,

This upcoming weekend is gonna be a busy one for us. Saturday we're venturing into the recording studio to lay down some sweet sounds.

Sadly, it's almost the one year anniversary of the Station nightclub fire in Warwick. Half Star Hotel has been asked to participate in a few benefit shows in the area. The first one being at the Narraganset Indian Lounge in Pawtucket this Sunday February, 22. Unfortunately Brian won't be able to make it, but we'll have our good friend Michael Skalko plugging in to fill out the sound. We'll be performing first and taking the stage at 3:00pm. This should be a fun time and I can promise you'll be subjected to some never before heard versions of some of our favorite songs.

See you there and remember... Shake it like a Polaroid picture!
David

What's up Half Star Friends,

As you've heard, we've been writing some original stuff that we hope you all will dig. If you like what you've heard from us in the past, you should like them. Anyway, we will be going into the studio shortly to get 3 of them recorded. So come and check them out live at the next show. Who knows... maybe we'll even have a CD sampler for you as well.

That's all for now. See you in March.

Peace,
Robert

Welcome distinguished guests, here's what's shakin'! First and foremost, we have an official new member. His name is Thomas and he really knows how to tickle the 88's. Also, we've been working hard on originals. A few of the finished titles are On The Inside, Same Old Story, and Flicker and Fade. Be sure to check 'em out at the next show at Sh Na Na's on Saturday, March 6. For your viewing pleasure, we have some rehearsal pictures from January. That's it for now I suppose. Peace.
